I'd like to try the surgical tubing as long as glue doesn't stick to it. Right now I use a combination of brown tape and the plastic wrapping stuff that comes on a roll with a handle. You can see through it in case there is a little gap somewhere. It doesn't mark the edges at all.

I have used the surgical tubing and it works well but not if you are going to use any cyano. WHat I did on one guitar was attached the bindings using the surgical tubing and then wicked in the cyano. It ate the rubber tubing and made a mess.

I then switched to twill tape after working with Robbies excellent DVD course and that worked great except I need to get the wrapping method down like in Robbies pics. Mine looked like a guitar mummy when it was done but to works great

I have another approach I am going to try. It is a roll of plastic shring wrap that is used for binding together parts for shiping. Covers a wide area quickly, comes on a roll with a handle which makes it really easy to apply (from my shipping experiences) and shouldnt stick to anything. Tight enough I think. This discussion caused me to think about that - will report back once I try it but I think this will work better than anything I have ever used. Another advantage is that it is clear so you can see if you have any gaps.

Question: If you use only rope or twill (no tape) how do you make the bindings stay in the right position after you apply glue, before you start to wrap? It also seems you must work pretty fast to install all bindings and purflings on one face before the glue starts to set, but I guess that comes with practice...
